December 1, 2000, marked the beginning of a new joint venture that combines the technology and expertise of two seismic leaders. Geco-Prakla, a division of Schlumberger; and Western Geophysical, a division of Baker Hughes have joined forces to create WesternGeco Canada Limited.

The Western Geco Canadian Marine Operations will function from offices in both Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Halifax, Nova Scotia. With work anticipated in the Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Saint-Pierre et Miquelon offshore areas, we are requesting expressions of interest from companies capable of supplying the services described below. All potential suppliers to Western Geco will be required to comply with all rules and regulations as put forth and governed by the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board, the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board and the governing bodies of Saint Pierre et Miquelon with respect to employment and industrial benefits reporting.

SCOPE
Guard Vessels required to protect 10,000 X 1,000 meters of towed seismic equipment deployed from 3D multi streamer seismic vessels operating in the jurisdictions covered by the C-NOPB, C-NSOPB and Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.

Possible Guard Vessel Duties:
- checking survey area for obstructions, fishing gear, iceberg bits
- search for and recover/tow drifting equipment
- support MOB/Work boats operations during insea equipment maintenance
- fathometer scouting
- temperature/salinity checks
- pro-active communications with fishers and shipping
- personnel transfers
- transfer of provisions
- standby during helicopter operations
- emergency response assistance

PERIOD
Estimated duration: May to October 2001

PREFERRED SPECIFICATIONS
- length 90 – 120 ft
- Officers experienced with seismic operations
- Officers familiar with fishing activity
- Duration at sea - 60 days
- GPS Navigation
- Search Light
- Comply with government and oil company regulatory inspections
- Comply with WesternGeco QHSE specifications
