Marathon Canada Limited (Marathon) intends to drill one to two wells located in Exploration License Block EL2377. Block EL2377 is 168,737 hectares (416,957 acres) in area and is located approximately 177 km (110 miles) offshore the Scotian Slope south of Sable Island. The water depth within the block varies from approximately 377 metres to over 3,250 metres. Drilling is expected to commence in the Spring of 2003, depending on drilling rig availability.

Marathon seeks qualified companies for the provision of a Health, Environmental and Safety Professional. This position will be based offshore on a drilling rig contracted by Marathon. The person(s) selected to fill this position will work on an offshore rotation basis providing health, environment and safety (HES) support to Marathon's 2003 drilling operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote and maximize company, contractor, and service company HES performance on a regular basis through participation in offshore meetings, site tours, audits, investigative analysis, documentation review, training and other offshore professional duties.
- Provide real time practical solutions to HES operational problems.
- Coordinate, promote and/or support HES program implementation offshore, across a wide range of personnel, contractors, and service companies.
- Promote company goals through continued training programs, hazard recognition, and the enhancement of HES awareness and performance.
- Advise offshore and onshore operations staff of any HES issues and facilitate resolution of issues.
- Ensure knowledge and understanding of the emergency response process and facilitate continued proficiency in emergency response offshore.
- Advise on implementation of offshore specific standards and ensure compliance with Marathon and regulatory requirements.
- Review changes in personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and ensure compliance.
- Support the implementation of health and hygiene programs offshore.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a minimum of five years of experience in the HES field, the majority of which should be related to the oil and gas industry and offshore experience is preferred.
- Professional certification in the safety field as well as an environmental/marine background would be considered definite assets.
- Must possess a strong technical background in order to understand detailed operations issues.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills that are complemented with a significant level of diplomacy.
- Excellent communication skills are required, both verbal and written.
- The following training certifications are a definite asset: current BST, H2S Alive or H2S Recognition, WHMIS and First Aid.

Services will be required for approximately 4 to 6 months.

Respondents must provide, at a minimum:
- a summary of resumes of available consultants;
- a summary of safety and technical training that your company offers to your consultants;
- a description of the company business and expertise in the HES field; and
- a summary of company history as well as health, environment and safety experience. Marathon will select qualified bidders from among the respondents to this EOI.
