MUDLOGGING SERVICES

Marathon Canada Limited (Marathon) intends to drill one to two wells located in Exploration License Block EL2377. Block EL2377 is 168,737 hectares (416,957 acres) in area and is located approximately 177 km (110 miles) offshore the Scotian Slope south of Sable Island. The water depth within the block varies from approximately 377 metres to over 3,250 metres. Drilling is expected to commence in the Spring of 2003, depending on drilling rig availability.

Marathon Canada Limited seeks qualified companies for the provision of Mud Logging Services for its upcoming deepwater drilling project offshore Nova Scotia. The services shall include the provision of a self-contained mud logging unit complete with racked computerized mud logging equipment and personnel as required to operate the unit and catch samples. Mudlogging personnel are required to have a minimum of 5 years mudlogging experience which includes detailed sample description, hydrocarbon show detection and evaluation and a sound knowledge of pore pressure evaluation while drilling. Data engineers are similarly expected to have a minimum 5 years experience in data acquisition, management and analysis, provide real time drilling optimization support and pore pressure evaluation using all available drilling data and parameters including logging while drilling data (real time and memory). Mud logging unit must have capability of WITS data link and Real Time data transmission (continuous to town). Interested parties should have shop facilities in Nova Scotia. The mud-logging unit shall be specifically designed for offshore work in the North Atlantic and as a minimum, meet the requirements of CNSOPB.

This scope pertains to activities undertaken by Marathon as the Operator of EL2377, EL2410 and EL2411 and may span over the term of EL2377 (Term I). It also applies to other exploration activities that may be conducted by Marathon as the Operator on new lands resulting from a Call for Bids or the acquisition of lands from other Operators. Further, Marathon's contracts will contain a right of assignment clause in order to facilitate shared services with other Operators.

Interested parties must have health, safety and environmental management and quality management systems which meet all requirements of the Canada Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB). Respondents must indicate company name, contact details, managers and key personnel as well as a company profile. Further, interested parties should demonstrate their capabilities by submitting relevant background information and a summary of related experience. Marathon will select qualified bidders from among the respondents to this EOI.
