Marathon Canada Limited (Marathon) has undertaken or participated in a series of regional sea floor geological, oceanographic and biological surveys along a portion of the Scotian Slope. In connection therewith, Marathon seeks the services of a qualified
and experienced contractor interested in providing the following: (1) an analysis of the biological materials collected by these surveys; (2) an analysis of the multibeam data collected previously; (3) an analysis of piston and box core sediments and
geology; and (4) an integration of the analyses and survey data into a composite benthic habitat map that describes the types of physical environments and benthic communities expected across the Annapolis Block (Exploration License 2377) as a subset of
the regional area.
While the ultimate goal of this project will be the benthic habitat map for the Annapolis Block, additional project tasks and work deliverables will include cataloged descriptions of the benthos, photographs and box core sediment samples collected from
the surveys, and a generalized description of the benthic ecological conditions in the area. The Annapolis Block covers approximately 1,700 km2. The completion date for this study is anticipated to be early December 2000.
