The Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP) through its alliance partner MM Industra/Brown & Root Joint Venture is requesting expressions of interest from qualified Nova Scotian and Canadian Companies capable of supplying load bearing flare radiation
shielding for the North Triumph Platform as described below. Companies interested in prequalifying to bid on this package should submit their corporate resumes indicating relevant experience and expertise with similar products to the following address
prior to the closing date indicated above. SOEP reserves the right to make the final determination of which firms will qualify to bid on the Project.
Scope of Work
Introduction
This specific describes the necessary requirements for the Radiation Shielding which is to be located on top of the Flare Tower Structure. The Radiation Shielding shall protect the Flare Tower against the effects of Flare Radiation and provide adequate
support as a platform surface for assembly and maintenance work on the Flare.
Requirements
The Radiation Shielding shall ensure that the surface temperature of the underlying structural steelwork remains under 100?C during flaring. This is to ensure that the steelwork is not damaged as a result of exposure to severe thermal cycling effects.
The panels and fixings shall be designed to withstand the effects of wind, snow and ice loads in addition to a maximum imposed distributed load of 5KN/m2.
The Radiation Shielding shall be supplied as individual panels designed to be installed together on the Flare Tower Supporting Structure. The panels shall be designed to be installed with sufficient gap to
allow for expansion and shrinkage during thermal cycling and designed to prevent internal panel stressing or buckling. The top grating shall be attached to the panel in such a manner as to allow individual expansion of the sections and avoid buckling or
warping.
Access Hatchways & Handrails
Hatchways shall be provided with hinged access doors secured with shoot bolts on the underside. Handgrips shall be provided to raise the doors open and hinges shall be welded to bearer bars on the doors and the shield panels.
The Radiation Shield shall have handrail sockets welded at intervals around the heat shield periphery and around the access hatchway (optional).
Fixings
The panels fixing shall be designed to be welded to the structural steelwork with a flat retaining plate which screws into position. A tensioning shall be used to ensure that the retaining plate is secure against the panels. The fixings shall provide
for minimum necessary movement during thermal cycling (to avoid buckling and warping) while at the same time holding each panel in place to the supporting structure.
Each retaining plate shall have a tab which shall be bent to lock it against the panel to prevent the retaining plate working free. The tensioning tool shall have a notch design in the handle to bend the tab into position. Anti shuffle plates shall be
located on the outer panels to prevent sliding out of the panels under windload or thermal ratcheting.
Materials of Construction
The Radiation Shielding shall be preferably manufactured in the following materials, which have been proven over many years exposure to live flaring conditions on offshore platforms.
Loading Supporting Grating
Incoloy 800 (HT)
Panel Side Members
Incoloy 800 (HT)
Reflective Foils
Inconel 625
Expanded Metals (cold underside of panel)
Stainless Steel 316
Fixings
Incoloy 800 (HT)
Material certificates shall be provided for the various materials used and traceability to EN10204 3.1B shall be provided where practical.
Testing and Experience
The Radiation System shall have undergone suitable heat tests to confirm its performance in operation. In addition, the Radiation Shield shall be a proven design; i.e. it shall have a history of successful operation in an offshore environment under
similar conditions.
